When the temperature climbs, there is no better way to cool off than a swim, and you do not need a backyard pool to do it. Brantford and the surrounding area are home to a great mix of places to swim, from year-round indoor aquatic centres to big outdoor pools made for hot summer afternoons. Here is where to take a dip, whether you want to do laps in January or splash with the kids in July.
Indoor pools, open year-round
When the weather turns, these two indoor facilities keep the swimming going all year, with lane swims, family swims, lessons, and water fitness.
Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre
Named for Brantford’s most famous export, the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre at 254 North Park Street has been the city’s main sports and leisure hub for more than 40 years. Its aquatic centre is one of the most complete around, with a 65-metre pool, a separate 25-metre pool, and warmer water and hydrotherapy pools kept at higher temperatures for gentler swims and aqua fitness. Recreational swims, lane swims, swim lessons, and lifeguard courses run throughout the year.

You will find lane swims, open recreational swims, aquafit classes, and swim lessons for every age. It is membership-based, and a great option if you want to swim year-round close to the core.

Earl Haig Family Fun Park
Earl Haig, at 101 Market Street South, is the city’s outdoor water park and a long-time family favourite. It is far more than a pool: there is a leisure pool, a lazy river, a waterslide, and a splash pad, plus mini-putt and a snack shack to round out the day. It opens on weekends as the season begins, then runs daily through the heart of summer to Labour Day.
